On the night of October 5, Russia launched 205 attack drones against Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defenses reporting 172 drones shot down or suppressed by 8:00 AM. The drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, and "Banderol" types, were launched from Russian regions and occupied territories. Hits were recorded at 13 locations, with debris from downed drones falling at three additional sites, while the attack continued with about ten drones still in the air. The Ukrainian General Staff reported Russian losses of 2,020 soldiers and about 1,900 drones over the past day, alongside hundreds of vehicles.
