Russia strikes Kyiv bridges in bid to split the capital

telegraph.co.uk [$] —

Russia struck Kyiv's Northern Bridge on Saturday, injuring two people, in an apparent new strategy to sever the Ukrainian capital in two by targeting its crossings over the Dnipro River. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Moscow was "tearing Kyiv apart" after the attack, which followed five strikes on the Southern Bridge earlier in the week. The relentless aerial campaign uses jet-powered drones that Ukraine struggles to intercept, with President Volodymyr Zelensky accusing Russia of targeting civilians to break their will to fight. Ukraine is destroying 57 percent of these fast drones, compared to 85 percent of older models, and is testing five prototype weapons to counter them. Officials have drawn up contingency plans for ferries or pontoon bridges if the crossings are destroyed.
