Russian Strikes on Kyiv's Dnipro Bridges Threaten Transport Chaos
Russia has intensified strikes on Kyiv's Dnipro River bridges, risking prolonged closures and severe transport and logistics disruptions in the Ukrainian capital, according to The New York Times. On October 3, a Russian drone attack damaged the Pivnichnyi Bridge, hitting road surface and trolleybus wires, injuring two people and limiting traffic. Earlier, on October 1-2, drones struck the Pivdennyi Bridge multiple times, damaging its roadway, supports, and barriers, forcing its full closure to cars and metro. These attacks have already caused major traffic jams, public transport delays, and pedestrians crossing bridges on foot. The newspaper suggests the campaign may aim to pressure Kyiv ahead of winter, potentially forcing long-term bridge closures and requiring alternative routes for people, goods, and critical logistics. City authorities may restrict bridge use for safety if further damage occurs.
