Germany announces €1.3 billion aid package for Ukraine in Kyiv visit
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth over 1.3 billion euros during a visit to Kyiv on Sunday, as Russia escalated attacks on Ukrainian cities. About 1 billion euros of the package is military aid, including long-range strike weapons, combat drones, and satellite technology, with 350 million euros for energy aid ahead of winter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the countries signed 15 agreements worth over 8.5 billion euros, covering security cooperation and weapons production. Germany is Ukraine's largest donor, having sent over 43.3 billion euros since the war began. Merz and Zelenskyy visited a damaged academy building, and Merz accused Russia of war crimes and disinformation campaigns.
