Ukraine reports 1,540 Russian troops and 49 artillery systems lost in a day
The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reported that Russia lost approximately 1,540 troops and 49 artillery systems in the past day, bringing total Russian military casualties since February 24, 2022, to about 1,540,700 as of October 4, 2026. Additional daily Russian losses include 527 vehicles, 1,742 drones, 6 armored vehicles, and 13 ground robotic systems. The General Staff also reported one multiple launch rocket system and three air defense units destroyed. On September 9, the General Staff announced Russian losses had surpassed 1.5 million killed and wounded, calling it Moscow's largest losses in a single war since World War II. The figure exceeds combined Soviet and Russian losses in all conflicts of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
