Ukraine and Germany sign energy deals after Berlin's 557 million euro pledge
Germany has allocated over 557 million euros to Ukraine's Energy Support Fund, with total contributions expected to exceed 800 million euros following new aid, according to Ukrainian Energy Minister Denis Shmyhal. The announcement followed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Kyiv. Shmyhal discussed with German Economy Minister Katharina Reiche joint projects in distributed and maneuverable generation, energy storage, grid modernization, and gas infrastructure. They also addressed gas security, including LNG supplies through German infrastructure and European companies' involvement with Ukrainian gas storage facilities. Germany pledged 50 million euros for the Chernobyl Shelter Facility restoration. Berlin and Kyiv signed 15 agreements covering security, arms production, and procurement, part of a 1.3 billion euro support package announced by Merz on October 4.
