Russia Vows to Escalate Attacks on Ukraine After Zelensky's Threats
Russia's Defense Ministry said Sunday it will intensify attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions, responding to President Volodymyr Zelensky's promise to escalate strikes on Russian oil refineries. Zelensky told Reuters on Saturday that Ukraine would double down on refinery attacks in response to Moscow's new air campaign aimed at forcing people to leave Kyiv, though he said civilians are not targeted. Russia recently hit infrastructure in the capital, including Dnipro River bridges, disrupting life for its 3 million residents before winter. Moscow described its recent strikes as retaliation for what it called Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets inside Russia, while vowing to hit military sites, defense industry facilities, and infrastructure in Kyiv and beyond.
