Germany pledges €1B in military aid to Ukraine during Kyiv visit
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz pledged over one billion euros in military and infrastructure aid to Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv on Sunday, despite drone attacks and warnings from Moscow. He stated the support is crucial for Europe's future. The aid package includes standoff weapons, combat drones, and satellite technology to target Russian launch ramps. Merz defended the payments against growing domestic criticism, emphasizing that if Russia is not stopped, its war machine will eventually turn against Germany. Germany is also providing 350 million euros for energy infrastructure ahead of the fifth war winter. Additionally, German and Ukrainian firms signed cooperation deals worth up to 8.5 billion euros, including Iris-T missiles and interceptor drones. Russia has announced harsher strikes in response.
