Germany pledges €1bn military aid to Ukraine as Russia intensifies attacks
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced €1bn in military aid for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv on Sunday, including funding for joint production of interceptor drones, alongside €350m for energy sector repairs. Merz said Germany acts in its own interest for European security, as 14 agreements worth €6.6bn were signed with German firms for IRIS-T missiles, radar equipment, and drone interceptors. Russian attacks continued during the visit, with a drone striking Kyiv's Northern Bridge and an airstrike killing one in Kharkiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested Russia may have shared jet-drone technology with North Korea, while Ukraine used drones to deliver food to occupied Oleshky. India announced it is seeking a greater role in brokering peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
