Merz in Kyiv pledges more arms, warns Russia could target Germany next
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kiev on Sunday promising additional military and economic aid to Ukraine as Moscow intensifies attacks on the capital ahead of winter. Merz committed to supplying thousands of interceptor drones and accelerating production of long-range systems, according to German news agency Dpa. He traveled by train with Economy Minister Katherina Reiche and ten business leaders from energy and defense companies. "Russia's war machine will eventually turn against us if it is not stopped," Merz said, adding Ukraine can continue counting on German support. The unannounced visit comes as Russia urged foreign diplomats to leave Kiev and as Merz faces domestic pressure from the far-right AfD's rise in eastern states.
