Ukraine disables over half of Russia's oil refining capacity
Ukraine has disabled over 51% of Russia's oil refining capacity as of early October, according to Ukraine's Defense Ministry, citing intelligence and General Staff analysis. The systematic strikes aim to weaken Russia's military-economic potential. Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmarа said the result stems from planned, systematic actions targeting Russian oil infrastructure, including recent drone attacks on refineries in Moscow, Yaroslavl, and other regions. He emphasized that deep-strike drones remain a priority, with production and procurement tripled in 2026. The ministry stated the strikes are "bleeding" Russia's war machine and shifting the conflict onto Russian territory. A separate October 1 fire at a chemical plant in Moscow Oblast, reportedly caused by an explosion, resulted in casualties among workers.
