Can Kyiv's Dnipro bridges be destroyed? Engineer reveals key secret
Ukrainian veteran and engineer Oleh Dörfler stated that destroying Kyiv's bridges over the Dnipro River is far more difficult than panic posts on social media suggest, calling such messages a Russian tactic to intimidate Ukrainians. Dörfler, who has an engineering-technician education and designed bridges, explained that the bridges were built during the Cold War with strength reserves calculated to withstand even tactical nuclear weapons. While a missile or drone could damage a span or support, completely collapsing such a bridge is a different task entirely. He cited the Antonivskyi Bridge in Kherson, which survived targeted HIMARS strikes in 2022 and was only fully destroyed by retreating Russian forces. Dörfler emphasized that panic itself is a weapon, advising Ukrainians to ignore unqualified "experts" and trust that the bridges remain standing.
