Germany pledges €1 billion in military aid and €350 million for Ukraine's energy sector
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a new financial support package for Ukraine during a joint press conference in Kyiv with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, pledging €1 billion for military aid and €350 million for energy sector restoration. The military funds will be allocated for long-range weapons, drones, and satellite technologies. Germany and Ukraine also signed additional agreements on security cooperation and joint drone production, with Merz noting that German and Ukrainian companies are creating high-tech joint ventures. The energy funding comes as Russia has ordered massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with European countries reportedly supplying spare parts and heating equipment ahead of winter. An EU diplomat suggested Ukraine faces potential military defeat if it cannot manage the cold season.
