Germany is providing Ukraine with a new support package worth over 1.3 billion euros, announced during a joint press conference in Kyiv by President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on October 4. The package includes weapons, energy support, and funding for new interceptors specifically designed to counter Russian "Shahed" drones. Approximately 350 million euros will be allocated for energy assistance, with Merz stating the aid will strengthen Ukraine's air defense and help the population endure the coming winter. Earlier that day, Merz visited the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, which was damaged by a Russian strike, and called on Vladimir Putin to cease attacks and show readiness for negotiations. Zelensky also announced "important agreements" between Ukraine and Germany regarding enhanced protection.
