Russian drone strike on Kyiv bridge injures two during Merz visit
Russian drones attacked Kyiv during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit on Sunday, injuring two people when a bridge over the Dnipro River was hit. Merz dismissed the attack, announcing military aid worth about £850 million and an energy support package. The targeted Northern Bridge, previously known as Moscow Bridge, connects several Kyiv neighborhoods and was also struck the prior day. Russian assaults since Thursday have closed three of Kyiv's six road bridges, part of Moscow's effort to disrupt the capital following Ukraine's pledge to intensify strikes on Russian oil refineries. Merz, accompanied by officials and business leaders, toured a damaged academy and proposed joint Ukrainian-German drone production. Kyiv's mayor said strikes were "tearing Kyiv apart," while President Zelensky vowed a response, and five more people were injured in the Sumy region.
