Russia strikes another Kyiv bridge during German chancellor's visit
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv on Sunday to show support and pledge new financial aid, as Russia attacked another bridge in the Ukrainian capital for the fourth consecutive day. The visit coincided with heightened Russian drone strikes targeting Kyiv's infrastructure. Two of Kyiv's eight bridges over the Dnipro River have been hit in recent days by Russian jet drones, causing massive traffic jams. Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported an impact on the Northern Bridge, while air raid sirens sounded repeatedly during Merz's visit with President Volodymyr Zelensky. Merz announced a comprehensive aid package worth over 1.3 billion euros, including weapons and energy sector support ahead of winter. Zelensky called the talks productive, while Russia warned of intensified strikes and suggested foreigners leave Kyiv. The US reportedly plans trilateral talks with Ukraine and Russia by late October.
