German Chancellor Merz visits Kyiv, pledges €1 billion in aid

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit to pledge additional aid for Ukraine's defense against Russian attacks, including interceptor drones and long-range weapons. Merz stated that Russia must be stopped or its military machine will eventually turn against Europe. He plans to assure Ukrainian forces of thousands of interceptor drones and increased production of long-range weapons, with 1 billion euros allocated from approved budget funds. An additional 350 million euros will go toward repairing and restoring damaged power plants, according to reports.
