Russia's drone strategy splits Kyiv along the Dnipro River
Russia attacked Kyiv's northern bridge on Saturday, wounding two people, as part of a new drone strategy aimed at splitting the Ukrainian capital along the Dnipro River, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The assault follows five strikes on the southern bridge earlier in the week. The jet-powered drones, which Kyiv struggles to intercept, have severed road, rail, and trolleybus links, disrupting daily life for commuters crossing between residential and business districts. Ukrainian authorities are preparing ferry and pontoon alternatives, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said five new weapons prototypes are being tested to counter the fast drones. The attacks coincide with US-backed peace efforts, including a proposed billion-dollar oil deal involving Trump associates Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, which would exempt Russian energy assets from sanctions. Billionaire Todd Boehly and a Qatari-linked firm are reported as potential investors, though Witkoff's spokesperson denies any financial conflict of interest.
