Ukraine and Germany sign €8.5 billion in defense and energy deals
Ukraine and Germany signed 15 documents worth €8.5 billion during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Kyiv on October 4, covering defense contracts and memorandums of intent, including IRIS-T systems and missiles. The agreements include a contract to localize Ukrainian drone production in Germany with Quantum Systems GmbH, memorandums with Diehl Defence for IRIS-T launchers and rockets, and deals for precision artillery ammunition, tactical radars, and interceptor drones. Additional pacts cover energy cooperation with Siemens Energy and grid operators 50Hertz and Amprion. Merz's first visit to Ukraine since May 2025 also brought a new aid package exceeding €1.3 billion, with about €350 million allocated for the energy sector and additional funds for air defense and interceptor production.
