Russia strikes 2 Kyiv bridges; Ukraine closes 5 of 6 in city
Russia struck two bridges in Kyiv on Saturday, prompting Ukrainian authorities to close five of the city's six bridges over the Dnipro River due to safety concerns. The attack injured two people and damaged road and trolley infrastructure. The strikes targeted the Pivnichnyi and Pivdennyi bridges, which connect Kyiv's eastern and western halves. Russia claimed the bridges were used for military transfers, while Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said the attacks threaten vital infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the escalation, citing broader overnight strikes on residential areas and energy facilities. The attacks are part of wider hostilities, including a drone strike on a vessel in Chornomorsk and a fatal attack on a Liberian-flagged ship in the Odessa region. Ukrainian strikes also killed two in Russian-occupied Luhansk and one in Belgorod, with additional casualties reported in Zaporizhia.
