Russian strike damages Kyiv bridge over Dnieper River
A Russian airstrike hit Kyiv's North Bridge over the Dnieper River on Saturday, damaging the crossing and suspending traffic from the city's east to west banks, with no casualties reported. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency services were deployed after the strike damaged the roadway and overhead trolleybus cables. The attack follows repeated Russian drone strikes on the South Bridge over the past two days, which also temporarily halted traffic on two other Dnieper crossings. These disruptions complicate commutes for Kyiv's roughly 3 million residents, over a third of whom lived on the east bank before Russia's 2022 invasion, while most jobs remain on the west bank. The strikes mark an escalation as Russia begins an anticipated winter campaign against Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
