Western embassies weigh moving from Kyiv to Lviv or Poland
Western embassies are preparing contingency plans to relocate from Kyiv to Lviv or Poland due to intensified Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital, according to senior diplomats cited by The Guardian. The plans come as Russia has launched near-daily drone and missile strikes on Kyiv since September, targeting schools, hospitals, and data centers. While publicly vowing to remain, diplomats privately acknowledge the rapidly deteriorating situation, though some warn withdrawal would hand Moscow a propaganda victory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Kremlin aims to intimidate civilians and weaken Ukraine's war effort, with Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa as primary targets. Lviv, a key logistics hub near Poland, is also reportedly on Russia's strike list.
