Russian Airstrikes on Kyiv Force Bridge Closures
Russian airstrikes on Kyiv continued Friday morning, forcing the closure of several bridges in the Ukrainian capital. A drone struck the South Bridge, a key east-west artery, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The South Bridge, which carries metro tracks and three road lanes across the Dnipro River, was hit, with another bridge fully closed and a third partially closed. The Russian Defense Ministry reported attacks on a road and rail bridge used for military logistics and a substation west of Kyiv. A previous drone strike on the South Bridge on Thursday damaged a pillar, guardrail, and roadway. Another drone hit a residential building in eastern Kyiv, killing one person. The closures disrupted traffic in the city of three million during morning rush hour.
