Ukraine can source special steel for bridge repairs, engineer says
Ukraine has the capability to quickly source and supply special steel needed for bridge construction and restoration, according to engineer and architect Oleh Hrechukh in an interview with NV. He cited successful wartime projects as evidence of this capacity. Hrechukh highlighted a large all-welded metal bridge built in Chernihiv in 2023, just a hundred kilometers from the front line, and another in Kyiv near the Chernihivska metro station. While contractors do not disclose where the metal is purchased, the expert said materials are found when there is a clear plan, project, and funding. The statement follows recent Russian strikes on Kyiv's Southern and Northern bridges, which caused structural damage and disrupted traffic. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks show Putin is ready to escalate the war with intensified air strikes on infrastructure.
