Rubio: US Embassy in Kyiv stays open despite Russian threats

pravda.com.ua (Russian) —

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded to Russia's call for foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv, stating that the State Department regularly analyzes the security of every diplomatic mission worldwide, but the embassy in the Ukrainian capital continues to operate for now. Rubio told journalists on October 5 that Russians have been issuing similar warnings to foreign diplomats for several months. He emphasized that the U.S. will decide itself whether it is safe for its embassy staff to remain, noting that Kyiv being subject to attacks is not a surprise to anyone. Russia's Foreign Ministry urged foreigners, including diplomatic personnel, to leave Kyiv and threatened new massive strikes on the Ukrainian capital. EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova confirmed all EU embassies continue working in Kyiv despite Russian threats, with Poland's Foreign Ministry echoing the same position.
