Kyiv under fire: New Russian drones disrupt daily life and economy
Russia has intensified attacks on Kyiv, using new jet-powered drones that bypass Ukrainian defenses and targeting critical infrastructure like bridges, factories, and warehouses, severely disrupting daily life in the capital. The bridge strikes have left around one million residents on the Dnipro's left bank struggling to commute to work, with daytime attacks now making the city resemble front-line areas like Kharkiv. The new drones are faster and harder to shoot down, and strikes on logistics centers have caused empty supermarket shelves and rising prices. Russia's strategy now explicitly targets Ukraine's economy, including key steel plants. In response, Ukraine is developing faster interceptor drones with German arms firms, following Chancellor Friedrich Merz's recent pledge of one billion euros in military aid.
