Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow kills two, hits refinery
A massive Ukrainian drone attack targeted Moscow overnight, killing two people and marking one of the largest such assaults on the Russian capital in two years, according to Russian officials. The attack also damaged an oil refinery in the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported 650 drones heading toward the region between 8:30 p.m. on October 5 and 5 a.m. on October 6, with nearly 70 more shot down by Tuesday morning. Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed two deaths, a 71-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, plus nine injuries and 47 damaged homes across seven municipalities. The strike reportedly hit the Volodarsk oil refinery in Konstantinovo, about 35 kilometers from Moscow's center, though Russian media did not confirm this. Four flights from Turkey to Moscow were diverted, and an 1800s historical building was damaged.
