Hundreds of drones strike Moscow and region, largest oil base serving airports burns
A massive drone attack targeted Moscow and the Moscow region overnight, with over 650 drones reported, causing a major fire at the region's largest oil base that supplies jet fuel to key airports. The attack occurred between 20:30 on October 5 and 5:00 on October 6. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed 105 drones were destroyed on approach, while the Linear Production and Dispatch Station "Volodarskaya" caught fire, with two tanks burning. Four flights from Turkey to Moscow were forced to turn back. The Volodarskaya station, part of Transneftproduct, handles 3 million tons of petroleum products annually and directly connects to Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetyevo airports. This is the second major drone attack on Moscow in recent weeks, following a September 20 strike on an oil refinery and power facilities.
