Robotic turrets deployed in Kyiv to counter Russian jet-powered Shahed drones
Ukraine has deployed robotic gun turrets in Kyiv to defend against Russian jet-powered Shahed drones, which have been attacking the city's infrastructure for over a month. The technology, already used on the front lines, is now being installed in the capital. Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat confirmed on October 5 that the new systems have already shot down jet-powered "Geran-5" drones. President Zelensky said over 12 turrets are installed in Kyiv, with eight more .50-caliber modules being set up in the region, primarily on bridges. The AI-equipped turrets automatically detect and track targets, with operators only confirming strikes. They were developed by Ukrainian manufacturers with the Brave1 defense cluster and first tested in May, proving effective against fast, maneuverable drones.
