Ukraine Strikes Major Moscow Oil Hub in Drone Attack
Ukraine launched a massive overnight drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region, targeting a major oil depot that supplies fuel to three of the Russian capital's airports. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported 650 drones were launched toward the city between the evening of Oct. 5 and the morning of Oct. 6. Russian air defenses claimed to have destroyed most of the drones, with Moscow Oblast Governor Andrei Vorobyov saying 185 were intercepted overnight. Vorobyov reported six people injured and one fatality, with more than 10 private homes damaged in the Istra area. The apparent target was the Volodarskaya Line Production and Dispatch Station, described as the largest oil depot in the Moscow region, operated by state-owned Transnefteprodukt. The attack follows a similar strike on Oct. 2 against the Samara LPDS, Russia's largest oil hub, and comes as Ukraine increasingly targets Russian oil infrastructure. US President Donald Trump on Oct. 5 blamed Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries for elevated gasoline prices, ahead of next month's US midterm elections.
