Turkish ship sinks in Black Sea; 2 dead, 11 rescued

newsbomb.gr (Greek) —

Two crew members of a Turkish commercial ship died and 11 were rescued after a fire broke out on the vessel in the Black Sea on Monday. The incident occurred in Romania's exclusive economic zone near an OMV Petrom oil platform. The ship, flying the flag of Saint Christopher and Nevis, was carrying grain and heading to Italy, with its last port in Izmail, Ukraine. Romanian authorities have not disclosed the fire's cause, and the defense ministry did not immediately respond to questions about a possible drone strike. Romania, a NATO member sharing a 614-kilometer border with Ukraine, has recorded Russian drone airspace violations and floating mines in the Black Sea since the war began over four years ago.
