Ukraine's AI-powered robotic turrets down Russian jet drones, says Air Force
Ukraine's air defense forces are already shooting down Russian jet-powered drones using robotic turrets, according to Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat, who made the announcement on Monday, October 5. Ignat stated that these turrets, equipped with artificial intelligence and machine vision, have successfully downed targets including the Geran-5 drone, eliminating human error. He noted the turrets have a limited range due to their machine-gun armament, with fighter jets, anti-aircraft guns like the Shilka and Gepard, and interceptor drones playing primary roles. On October 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv has installed 12 such turrets, with eight more, designed for .50-caliber machine guns, planned for the Kyiv region.
