Ukraine deploys AI-controlled weapons to down Russian drones

correiobraziliense.com.br (Portuguese) —

Ukraine's Air Force announced Monday it has begun using AI-controlled robotic weapons to shoot down Russian drones, including newer, faster models that are harder to intercept. Colonel Yuri Ignat said the turrets are being installed on bridges and have already achieved some interceptions near Kyiv. The new robotic turrets use optical vision and artificial intelligence to eliminate the human factor when launching attacks, according to Ignat. Ukraine has spent months seeking ways to counter Russia's newer jet-powered drones, which are faster and more difficult to intercept than the earlier Iranian Shahed-based models. The system has reportedly downed several drones, including the modern Geran-5 model. The deployment marks a significant technological shift in Ukraine's air defense strategy against evolving Russian drone threats.
