Drone strikes hit two ships in Bulgaria's Black Sea zone

tsf.pt (Portuguese) —

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said Tuesday that two commercial ships were hit by drones in the country's Exclusive Economic Zone in the Black Sea, marking the first such attack on vessels in the NATO member's waters. One vessel, the Togo-flagged Alfa Watan, suffered critical structural damage and sank, with the crew's status unknown. The second, the Palau-flagged Able, caught fire; its 18 crew members were rescued, with two seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital in Varna. The drones' origin has not been determined. The incident follows a similar drone attack on a Turkish-flagged ship off Romania's coast that killed two crew members, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attributed to Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov has stated Moscow aims to completely cut Ukraine's military supplies by sea.
