Germany and Ukraine sign defense and energy deals worth billions
Germany and Ukraine have sealed numerous cooperation agreements worth up to 8.5 billion euros, focusing on defense and energy sectors during Chancellor Merz's visit to Kyiv. The deals include interceptor drones and air defense missiles. More than a dozen cooperation documents were signed, including Ukraine's defense ministry agreement with Diehl for thousands of Iris-T air defense missiles and launchers. Hensoldt secured a satellite technology contract, while Quantum will develop and produce interceptor drones in Ukraine, available by winter 2026/27. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy cited the total value at 8.5 billion euros, while German government sources mentioned 6.5 billion euros. Germany also released an additional 1 billion euros in military aid and 350 million euros for Ukraine's damaged energy system.
