Zelensky suspends attacks on Russia during US envoy visit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has ordered a suspension of Ukrainian aerial attacks on Russia during this weekend's visit by US envoys to Moscow and Kiev, following a similar three-day ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky stated Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow through Monday and expects Russia to respect Kiev, while also guaranteeing safe airspace for the negotiators' travel. He denounced Russian bombings of Kiev and Borispol airports before Putin's announcement, suggesting they were reactions to the US delegation's potential arrival. The US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will meet Putin in Moscow and then Zelensky in Kiev, marking their first meeting with the Ukrainian leader. The trip follows Trump's unsuccessful August 2025 Alaska meeting with Putin and his efforts to reintegrate Russia internationally.
