Drone strike hits SBU chief's office in central Kyiv
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia struck the central building of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv, with a drone hitting the office of acting chief Oleksandr Poklad. Poklad was not present at the time of the attack, and Russia has not yet commented. The drone strike caused a fire and damaged the historic building near St. Sophia Cathedral, injuring nine people, two seriously. Zelensky ordered a "mirror" response to Russia, while the attack occurred amid reports that US special envoys are scheduled to visit both Moscow and Kyiv in the coming days. The strike marks a significant escalation, as Russia had previously avoided targeting Ukraine's political and military leadership. Ukraine's foreign minister condemned the attack as undermining diplomatic efforts, while Zelensky later announced that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would visit Moscow and Kyiv on September 5-6.
