Ukraine sends Putin ceasefire proposal; no response from Moscow

Ukraine has sent Russia a ceasefire proposal that was delivered to Vladimir Putin, but Moscow has not responded, according to Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov. Budanov said the proposal covered not only halting strikes on Ukraine but also stopping combat operations on the front line. He noted that drones continue to fly, indicating ongoing attacks. Budanov confirmed that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Ukraine on September 6, after first traveling to Russia. He suggested Russians may avoid attacking Kyiv during the American officials' visit. Ukrainian forces had been ordered to observe a temporary truce from September 5-8, but Russian forces did not comply.
