US envoys to hold peace talks with Putin and Zelensky
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are set for fresh peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow before traveling to Kyiv on Sunday to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned Donald Trump that any peace deal must account for battlefield realities, which he claimed favor Russia. Meanwhile, Russia launched fresh overnight drone and missile attacks across Ukraine, killing at least five people, despite Zelensky proposing a temporary reciprocal air truce during the US visits. Ukrainian presidential aide Pavlo Palisa warned intelligence suggests Russia is preparing scenarios for a new offensive toward Kyiv and Chernihiv, though no new troop groupings have been detected. Ukraine also faces a £19.7bn defense funding shortfall this year, prompting Zelensky to request the EU frontload its planned support loan.
