Russia Vows Three-Day Halt on Kyiv Strikes Ahead of US Talks
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russia will not strike Kyiv for three days starting midnight September 6, citing preparations for contacts with U.S. representatives in the Ukrainian capital. Peskov stated that Putin ordered no strikes on Kyiv from September 6-8, linking this to upcoming U.S. contacts in Kyiv. He added he had no information about Americans bringing new ideas to Russia to end the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky had promised not to strike Russia while Trump envoys Witkoff and Kushner are present, but on September 5 he reported Russian "demonstrative" attacks on Kyiv airports. The envoys' visit remains uncertain, with Witkoff reportedly "beginning to fear."
