Trump envoys take new peace plan to Moscow and Kyiv
US President Donald Trump's special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are traveling to Moscow and Kyiv this weekend with a new proposal to end the war in Ukraine, marking their first visit to the Ukrainian capital. Trump stated they have "an idea for peace" without specifying details. The envoys will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Sunday. Zelensky has proposed a ceasefire during the talks, while Russia has not yet confirmed the visit or responded to the proposal. A Russian drone attack on Kyiv's SBU security service headquarters on Friday injured 15 people. The visit follows CIA Director John Ratcliffe's rare trip to Moscow last week. Trump has launched multiple negotiation rounds since early 2025 without tangible progress, attributing the war to a "personality problem" between Zelensky and Putin.
