Ukraine's military says it continues full defensive operations despite reported ceasefire with Russia

Ukraine's Armed Forces stated they are continuing their defensive operations in full, despite reports of a temporary ceasefire with Russia, noting that Moscow has not adhered to the "ceasefire regime" that began at midnight. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told RBC-Ukraine that a ceasefire cannot be one-sided or asymmetrical, as it would endanger the lives of Ukrainian servicemen. Reports emerged that Ukrainian forces received orders to halt strikes until the end of September 7, while Kyiv awaits Moscow's response on a mutual pause in aerial attacks during diplomatic visits. The ceasefire initiative reportedly came from Ukraine ahead of visits by US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv. Russia continued overnight attacks, striking Kyiv, Kamenskoye, Mykolaiv, and Boryspol, as no announced "ceasefire" during the war has ever brought a full halt to fighting.
