Putin Rules Out Broad Ukraine Ceasefire After US Meeting
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a meeting with US President's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner that Russia never agreed to a broader ceasefire with Ukraine, despite ordering a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv. Putin confirmed that strikes on Kyiv have not been conducted since midnight on September 5, following an official request from the US side. He noted that Ukraine also significantly reduced attacks on Russian territory, including Moscow, but emphasized that no broader truce was negotiated. Witkoff thanked Putin for agreeing to the three-day cessation of hostilities covering both Kyiv and Moscow. Putin said he plans to discuss "all modalities" of the Ukrainian settlement and expressed comfort working with the US representatives. Kyiv reported five air raid alerts on September 5, with two deaths in the region.
