US envoys visit Moscow as Russian strikes kill five in Ukraine

At least five people were killed in a Russian attack on Kamianske in southeastern Ukraine on Saturday, as US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Moscow with a peace proposal. The strike also injured five others, according to Governor Oleksandr Hanzha. Russia ordered a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv starting Saturday, while Ukraine’s army had earlier been ordered to cease fire for three days from midnight. A separate IAEA-brokered ceasefire aims to restore external power to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which has relied on diesel generators since August 20. Despite the announced truce, Russian attacks continued overnight, including strikes on airports in Kyiv and Boryspil, which President Zelenskyy called demonstrative. The envoys will visit Kyiv on Sunday, their first trip since January, as civilian deaths in Ukraine have risen sharply from jet-powered drone attacks.
