Russia strikes Kyiv airports as US envoys arrive for peace talks
Russia struck airports in Kyiv and Boryspil on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, ahead of a planned visit by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss peace talks. Zelensky called the strikes a reaction to American diplomacy. The US envoys, announced by President Donald Trump on Friday, aim to secure a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. They were scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday and Zelensky in Kyiv on Sunday, according to US media. Ukraine has kept its airspace closed since Russia's February 2022 invasion, but officials had discussed the envoys traveling by plane. The trip follows a rare CIA director visit to Moscow and comes as long-range strikes have pushed civilian casualties to new highs.
