Trump Envoys Meet Putin in Moscow to Push New Ukraine Peace Plan

President Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday to discuss a new, concrete peace proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine war, following Trump's announcement of the plan a day earlier. The envoys were welcomed by Putin's special representative, Kirill Dmitriev, and met with Putin at the Kremlin that evening. Putin declared a three-day halt to attacks, while Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky had appealed for a temporary ceasefire to ensure safe talks. The envoys are expected to travel to Ukraine on Sunday for further negotiations. Despite the diplomatic push, peace remains difficult, as Russia reiterated its unchanged position on Friday demanding full control of four Ukrainian regions and Ukraine's abandonment of NATO plans. Russia also launched missiles and 168 drones overnight, killing five people, amid ongoing conflict that has seen over 16,800 civilian deaths since February 2022.
