Russia strikes Kyiv intelligence HQ, Zelenskyy vows response

Russia struck the headquarters of Ukraine's SBU intelligence agency in central Kyiv with a drone on Friday, injuring at least nine people and prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to order a "tangible response." The attack hit the SBU building on Volodymyrska Street, near the St Sophia Cathedral, a UNESCO site, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha calling it a "major escalation." The strike occurred amid over a week of daily Russian drone and missile attacks, with Kyiv facing a shortage of US-made Patriot interceptors. The SBU coordinates operations against Russia, including last year's Operation Spiderweb. The strike came two days before US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were expected to visit Kyiv, as US-led peace efforts have stalled.
