US Envoys' Moscow Trip Prompts Conflicting Ceasefire Reports in Ukraine
Ukraine has reportedly ordered its forces to observe a ceasefire from September 5-8, but conflicting reports and ongoing Russian attacks cast doubt on the agreement's validity. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv will refrain from air strikes to ensure safe travel for US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow, expecting Russia to reciprocate. However, Ukrainian military sources deny receiving any frontline ceasefire orders, with some noting only a possible air ceasefire was discussed. Russia has continued attacks, including drone strikes on Kyiv, and has violated all previous ceasefires, including Easter and May 2026 truces. Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to visit Moscow and Kyiv this weekend for peace negotiations.
