Putin meets US envoys in Moscow to discuss Trump's Ukraine peace plan
Russian President Vladimir Putin met US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow on Saturday to discuss a Trump proposal to end the Ukraine war, with both sides agreeing not to strike each other's capitals for three days. The envoys, representing President Donald Trump, will visit Kyiv on Sunday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Putin welcomed the mediators, while Russian strikes on Saturday killed at least seven people in Ukraine, including in Kyiv suburbs. The Kremlin ordered no strikes on Kyiv from midnight Saturday, and Zelensky pledged Ukraine would refrain from attacking Moscow through Monday. This marks the envoys' first Kyiv visit since Trump returned to office, as the conflict, which began with Russia's 2022 invasion, continues with rising civilian casualties.
