Trump envoys Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Moscow for Ukraine talks

US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday, September 5, for talks on Ukraine, according to Russian state media and Reuters. They were met at Vnukovo airport by Russian presidential special representative Kirill Dmitriev. The envoys are expected to hold another round of negotiations on ending Russia's war against Ukraine, with plans to travel to Kyiv on Sunday. The visit follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's announcement on September 4 that Ukraine would pause air strikes on Russia during the envoys' Moscow visit to ensure normal functioning of Russian airspace. Despite this, Russian forces continued strikes on Ukraine on September 5, with Zelensky reporting targeted attacks on airports in Kyiv and Boryspil, calling them a response to preparations for the American delegation's arrival. He described the strikes as "Russian-Iranian Shaheds in response to American diplomacy."
